Tripura Sundari Diwali Mela will be held from November 6 to 8 at the historic Mata Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur, Gomati district, as preparations begin for the annual three-day religious and cultural festival. Authorities are focusing on security, crowd management, infrastructure and cultural programmes ahead of the expected gathering of devotees and visitors.
The first coordination meeting for the festival took place at the conference hall of the Gomati District Magistrate. Gomati Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Debal Deb Roy chaired the meeting, which was attended by MLA Abhishek Deb Roy, Gomati District Magistrate Rinku Lather and senior officials from different departments. The meeting reviewed arrangements needed to conduct the festival smoothly.
Security takes priority at the 2026 mela
Security and surveillance have emerged as major priorities for the Tripura Sundari Diwali Mela. Authorities have decided to deploy drone cameras during the event to monitor crowds and activities across the festival area.
CCTV cameras will also be installed at strategic locations around the mela premises, including areas inside the temple complex. The measures are aimed at improving surveillance and helping officials respond quickly to crowd-related issues during the three-day gathering.
Officials are also working on crowd control, infrastructure, logistics and coordination among government departments. With the festival expected to attract large numbers of devotees, organisers are looking to strengthen arrangements before the event begins.
Cultural programmes planned every evening
The Tripura Sundari Diwali Mela will combine religious observances with cultural activities. According to the preparations discussed at the coordination meeting, cultural programmes will be organised every evening at the open-air stage.
Artists from Tripura and other parts of the country are expected to participate in the programmes. The cultural schedule will add a public entertainment component to the annual religious gathering while providing a platform for performers from the state and elsewhere.
The mela has traditionally served as more than a pilgrimage event, bringing together religious activities, local commerce and cultural performances around the temple complex.
Organising committees formed for better coordination
To manage the festival, authorities have constituted a central organising committee along with 14 sub-committees. Debal Deb Roy will head the main organising committee.
The committees are expected to coordinate different aspects of the event, including security, crowd management, infrastructure, logistics and arrangements for visitors. Such coordination will be important as several government departments and local authorities are involved in preparing the temple premises and surrounding areas.
The Tripura Sundari Diwali Mela is being organised at a temple that holds an important place in Tripura’s religious heritage. Located in Udaipur, the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple is traditionally counted among the 51 Shakti Peethas. The shrine was established by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya in 1501 and is popularly known as Matabari.
Temple redevelopment adds to the festival backdrop
This year’s festival also comes after the redevelopment of the temple complex under the Centre’s PRASHAD scheme. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated development works at the temple complex in September 2025.
The redevelopment included facilities such as a food court, multipurpose halls, Bhog and Prasad Ghar, pooja shops, modern toilets and temple illumination. Infrastructure around the complex was also upgraded, including water and sewage systems, drainage, landscaping, signage and other public conveniences.
The temple’s improved infrastructure is expected to support pilgrims and visitors as the Tripura Sundari Diwali Mela returns this November. The annual festival is also listed by the Ministry of Tourism as an important event associated with the temple, which attracts large numbers of devotees during Diwali.
A major religious gathering in Tripura
The Tripura Sundari Diwali Mela remains closely linked with Tripura’s religious and cultural identity. The temple complex, situated beside Kalyan Sagar, has long drawn pilgrims during the Diwali period. The shrine’s association with Shakti Peetha tradition gives the annual festival wider significance beyond Udaipur and Gomati district.
As November approaches, officials will continue preparations for the three-day event. The combination of enhanced surveillance, multiple organising committees, evening cultural programmes and upgraded temple facilities is expected to shape this year’s celebration.
