Nagaland United IFL debut will mark a historic milestone on October 30, 2026, when Nagaland United Sports Club (NUSC) becomes the first club from the state to compete in the Indian Football League (IFL), the national second-tier football competition. The Chümoukedima-based club will open its 2026-27 campaign against Real Kashmir FC at the TRC Stadium in Srinagar, bringing Nagaland into the national league spotlight for the first time.
The development represents a significant opportunity for football in the state, particularly for young players seeking professional exposure. With support from state leaders and the football community, the club is preparing to represent Nagaland on a national platform.
Nagaland United IFL Debut Marks Historic Achievement
The Nagaland United IFL debut follows the club’s rapid progress since its establishment in 2024. Founded by local leaders, sportspersons and football supporters, NUSC was created to provide talented players with opportunities to compete and develop their careers.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio attended the club’s opening programme at the Regional Centre for Sporting Excellence in Sovima on October 22, where NUSC inaugurated its office and the Elevenses Cafe Lounge.
Rio expressed pride in the club’s entry into the national competition and said he hoped its journey would inspire young people in Nagaland and Nagas living elsewhere. He also urged the management, coaching staff and players to maintain discipline, professionalism and sportsmanship.
The programme was attended by Tourism and Higher Education Minister Temjen Imna Along, MLA and adviser KT Sukhalu, Chief Minister’s adviser Abu Metha, and representatives of the club and the Indian Football League.
How Nagaland United Secured Its Place in the IFL
NUSC secured its place in the competition through an arrangement with Aizawl FC, approved by the All India Football Federation (AIFF). Under the agreement, the Nagaland club took over the Mizoram-based side’s sporting rights in the league.
The move enabled Nagaland to gain representation in the national second tier, marking an important development for the state’s football structure.
Before its national entry, NUSC competed in the inaugural Nagaland Super League in 2025, finishing third in the state-level competition organised by the Nagaland Football Association.
The club’s progress from a newly established team to a national league participant within a relatively short period highlights its ambition to build a stronger presence in Indian football.
Real Kashmir to Test Nagaland United in Opening Match
The club’s first major challenge will come against Real Kashmir FC on October 30. The away fixture at the TRC Stadium in Srinagar will serve as NUSC’s introduction to the demands of national second-tier football.
Ahead of the league campaign, Nagaland United is also preparing through friendly matches. The club was scheduled to face Headhunters FC at Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima on October 24, providing an opportunity to fine-tune its preparations before the opening fixture.
The club also unveiled its home, away and reserve kits during the Indian Football League Trophy Tour programme held in Chümoukedima. The event brought together football representatives, government officials and supporters ahead of the new season.
NUSC will play its home matches at Chümoukedima Football Stadium, bringing national league fixtures to Nagaland for the first time.
New Opportunities for Young Footballers
The club’s entry into the IFL could strengthen the pathway for local players to progress from village, district and community competitions to state and national levels.
Regular participation in a national league can provide players with experience against stronger opponents, improve their tactical understanding and expose them to the demands of professional football.
NUSC’s presence may also encourage greater investment in grassroots development, coaching programmes and youth training. Increased attention on the team could help attract supporters, sponsors and aspiring players who want to contribute to the state’s football future.
Nagaland’s football community will be watching closely as the team begins its campaign, with hopes that its participation will create lasting opportunities beyond the first season.
As the October 30 opener approaches, Nagaland United Sports Club faces the challenge of turning a historic entry into consistent performances on the pitch. Its journey represents a new chapter for the state’s football ambitions, offering young players a stronger connection to the national game and giving supporters a team to rally behind.
