With the sacred Ambubachi Mahayog 2025 set to begin at the Kamakhya Temple, Guwahati Police has released detailed guidelines to manage the flow of pilgrims and ensure safety. One of the key instructions restricts the movement of devotees on Nilachal Hills from 5 AM to 6 PM.
Guidelines Aim to Maintain Spiritual and Public Order
The Ambubachi Mahayog, one of the most revered Hindu festivals in Northeast India, draws lakhs of devotees from across the country. In preparation, authorities have tightened security and streamlined regulations for the smooth conduct of the event.
The Guwahati Police, in coordination with district administration and temple authorities, issued a comprehensive advisory under the title “Ambubachi Mahayog 2025 guidelines”. The guidelines are designed to balance spiritual observance with crowd safety.
Entry Timings Strictly Enforced
As per the new rules, devotees will be allowed entry to Nilachal Hills strictly between 5 AM and 6 PM during the Ambubachi period. This measure is aimed at preventing overcrowding during night hours and ensuring adequate rest and sanitation maintenance.
Senior officials said personnel will be deployed at strategic locations to enforce this timeline. Although, no exceptions will be made, even for special groups.
Security Tightened Across Kamakhya Premises
More than 2,000 police personnel and paramilitary units will be deployed. Surveillance will include drone monitoring, CCTV coverage, and foot patrols. Women personnel and volunteers will also be stationed to assist female pilgrims.
A senior Guwahati Police officer said, “We are expecting over 10 lakh pilgrims during this year’s Ambubachi. Also, the guidelines aim to prevent stampedes and ensure emergency services are not blocked.”
Traffic and Transit Measures in Place
Heavy vehicles will be barred from entering major routes leading to the Kamakhya Hills. Designated shuttle services will operate from city outskirts to drop pilgrims at specific points.
Parking lots and emergency medical tents will be placed at entry points. The district transport department has urged pilgrims to use public transport as much as possible.
Health, Food and Shelter Arrangements Strengthened
Multiple shelters have been erected around Kamakhya to provide temporary lodging for pilgrims. Further, health teams from the National Health Mission (NHM) and Assam Health Department will operate mobile clinics and first aid stations.
The Food and Civil Supplies Department will monitor langars and food stalls for hygiene and pricing. Also, special attention has been given to ensuring clean drinking water and sanitation access.
Volunteers and NGOs to Support Crowd Management
Local NGOs and temple-affiliated volunteers will play an active role in managing crowd flow and offering information to first-time visitors. Coordination centers with multi-lingual support will be functional round-the-clock.
An official said, “We are focusing on making Ambubachi Mahayog 2025 peaceful and spiritually uplifting for all. The public must cooperate with the rules.”
Appeal to Devotees for Responsible Participation
Authorities have appealed to all devotees to maintain discipline, follow instructions, and avoid carrying large luggage. However, pilgrims have also been urged to avoid littering or causing damage to the hill ecosystem.
Officials reiterated that Ambubachi Mahayog 2025 guidelines are not meant to restrict worship but to ensure that the holy event proceeds smoothly.
With crowd estimates rising each year, Ambubachi Mahayog 2025 may mark a new milestone in pilgrimage management. Guwahati’s preparedness, combined with cooperation from devotees, will determine the success of this sacred gathering.
