Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju has said that Arunachal Pradesh University needs additional land and modern infrastructure to realise its full potential and emerge as a stronger centre for higher education in the state.
Rijiju made the remarks during a visit to the university, where he reviewed its infrastructure, academic facilities and future development requirements.
Rijiju Reviews University Infrastructure
During his visit, Rijiju interacted with university authorities and took stock of the institution’s existing facilities and infrastructure.
The Union minister said that the university has significant potential to contribute to the development of higher education in Arunachal Pradesh but requires adequate land and modern facilities to expand.
He stressed the importance of creating an academic environment capable of meeting the needs of students and supporting the growth of research and other educational activities.
More Land Needed for Expansion
A key issue highlighted during the visit was the availability of land for future expansion.
Rijiju said that the university would require additional land if it is to develop the infrastructure necessary for its long-term growth.
Expansion could allow the institution to establish additional academic buildings, laboratories, hostels and other facilities required to accommodate a growing student population.
For a university located in a geographically challenging state like Arunachal Pradesh, access to adequate land and infrastructure is particularly important for planned development.
Focus on Modern Facilities
Rijiju also emphasised the need for modern facilities at the university.
Higher education institutions increasingly require advanced laboratories, digital infrastructure, research facilities, libraries and specialised academic spaces to remain competitive.
The Union minister said that the university should be equipped with facilities that can support contemporary education and research while also addressing the requirements of students from the state and neighbouring regions.
The focus on modern infrastructure is part of a broader push to strengthen higher education institutions in the Northeast.
Higher Education Key to Arunachal’s Development
Rijiju linked the development of the university with the wider progress of Arunachal Pradesh.
A stronger higher education ecosystem can provide young people with opportunities to pursue advanced studies closer to home while contributing to the development of skilled professionals in the region.
Universities can also play an important role in research related to the Northeast’s unique environment, culture, biodiversity and economic opportunities.
Strengthening academic institutions could therefore have implications beyond education, particularly in areas such as employment, research and innovation.
Need for Long-Term Planning
The minister’s comments also underline the importance of planning university expansion well in advance.
As institutions grow, demand for classrooms, laboratories, student accommodation, administrative facilities and recreational spaces also increases.
Without adequate land and a long-term infrastructure plan, expansion can become difficult and costly.
Rijiju’s emphasis on additional land and modern facilities indicates the need to address these requirements as part of the university’s future development strategy.
Arunachal Pradesh’s Education Infrastructure
Arunachal Pradesh has been seeking to strengthen its education infrastructure as the state works to provide greater opportunities for its young population.
The development of universities and other higher education institutions is particularly important for a state where geographical challenges can make access to specialised education difficult.
Improving infrastructure could help attract students and faculty while creating an environment more conducive to research and innovation.
Aiming for Sustainable Growth
The visit comes at a time when higher education institutions across the Northeast are being encouraged to improve infrastructure and expand academic capabilities.
For Arunachal Pradesh University, the immediate priorities identified by Rijiju include securing additional land and developing modern facilities.
If these requirements are addressed through coordinated planning and investment, the university could expand its academic programmes, research capacity and student services.
The emphasis now is on ensuring that the institution’s physical infrastructure keeps pace with its academic ambitions and the growing higher education needs of Arunachal Pradesh.
