A massive fire broke out at two warehouses in North Lakhimpur town of Assam on Tuesday evening. The blaze destroyed large quantities of stored goods before firefighters brought it under control.
The incident took place at around 5:30 pm in Ward No. 13 along Betmahal-Gurudwara Road. The affected warehouses reportedly stored footwear, jute materials, fishing nets, mesh and tarpaulins.
The fire created concern in the area as thick flames spread through the warehouse premises. Local residents and workers gathered near the site as emergency teams responded to the incident.
Four Fire Tenders Sent to the Spot
Fire and emergency personnel quickly reached the location after receiving information about the blaze. Four fire tenders were deployed to fight the flames.
After sustained efforts, the firefighters managed to bring the fire under control. However, the warehouses had already suffered extensive damage by the time the operation ended.
Officials have not reported any deaths or injuries in connection with the incident so far.
Warehouse Stocks Completely Destroyed
The fire caused extensive damage to the materials stored inside both warehouses. One facility reportedly contained slippers and other footwear.
The second warehouse stored fishing nets, mesh and tarpaulins. These materials were destroyed in the blaze, according to an employee who spoke to news agency ANI.
Abdul Sopik, an employee associated with one of the warehouses, said they received a phone call informing them about the fire. He and others then reached the location around 5:20 pm to 5:25 pm.
By that time, he said, the warehouses had already been completely gutted.
Cause of Fire Yet to Be Determined
The exact cause of the fire remains unknown. Authorities are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident as part of the assessment.
At present, there is no confirmed information indicating what triggered the blaze. Investigators may also assess whether an electrical fault, accidental ignition or another factor played a role.
Meanwhile, the priority for the emergency teams was to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures.
Firefighters Prevent Further Spread
The presence of multiple warehouses and combustible materials made the situation particularly challenging. Items such as tarpaulins, footwear and other stored goods can allow flames to spread rapidly once a fire starts.
However, the deployment of four fire tenders helped firefighters tackle the blaze. Their intervention brought the situation under control and reduced the immediate risk to surrounding areas.
