The much-awaited 7.5-km elevated stretch of Bengaluru’s Namma Metro Pink Line is ready for inauguration and is expected to open to the public soon, Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has said.
The first operational section of the Pink Line will run between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere along Bannerghatta Road. The state government is awaiting the necessary approvals and confirmation of an inauguration date from the Union government before opening the corridor for commuters.
Minister Reviews Readiness During Trial Run
Krishna Byre Gowda reviewed the preparedness of the new Metro corridor during a trial run from Jayadeva Station towards Kalena Agrahara.
The inspection was attended by Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, MLA M Krishnappa, Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited Managing Director P C Jaffer and other senior officials.
Gowda said the 7.5-km Kalena Agrahara–Tavarekere stretch was ready for inauguration and expressed hope that the Union government would announce a date for its opening soon.
Final Clearances Awaited Before Public Opening
While the civil and operational preparations for the elevated Pink Line stretch are largely complete, the corridor still requires final regulatory clearances before commercial services can begin.
According to reports, the opening is subject to safety-related approvals and rolling stock clearance. Authorities are working to complete the remaining formalities so that the line can be opened for passengers at the earliest.
The state government has indicated that it is coordinating with the concerned central authorities to secure the necessary approvals and finalise the inauguration schedule.
Key Addition to Bengaluru’s Metro Network
The opening of the Kalena Agrahara–Tavarekere section will mark the first operational stretch of Bengaluru Metro’s Pink Line, one of the major corridors being developed under Namma Metro’s expansion programme.
The full Pink Line is planned as a 21.25-km corridor connecting Kalena Agrahara and Nagawara. It will include both elevated and underground sections and is expected to significantly improve north-south connectivity across Bengaluru once fully operational.
The first 7.5-km elevated section is particularly important for commuters travelling along the busy Bannerghatta Road corridor, which regularly witnesses heavy traffic congestion.
New Metro Stretch Expected to Ease Traffic
The upcoming Metro section is expected to provide commuters with a faster and more reliable alternative to road travel along some of Bengaluru’s congested corridors.
Bannerghatta Road connects several major residential, commercial, educational and healthcare hubs. The introduction of Metro services on the corridor is expected to improve connectivity and reduce dependence on private vehicles and road-based transport.
The new line could also help ease pressure on busy road junctions, particularly during peak commuting hours, as Bengaluru continues to expand its mass public transport network.
Pink Line Opening Marks Major Milestone
The launch of the first section of the Pink Line will represent another major milestone for Bengaluru’s rapidly expanding Metro system.
The new corridor will eventually connect several important parts of the city and provide additional interchange opportunities with other Metro lines. Jayadeva Hospital is expected to become a significant interchange point, improving connectivity between different parts of the Namma Metro network.
With the Kalena Agrahara–Tavarekere stretch now ready, attention has shifted towards completing the final approvals and announcing an official inauguration date.
