BJP's 'Save Democracy' campaign gathers pace, Himanta Biswa Sarma joins Bihar march

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) ‘Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy’ campaign is gaining momentum across the country. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma joined a party-led march in Bihar on Wednesday, November 4, as the BJP intensified its political campaign against the Congress.

The campaign, titled ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’, aims to challenge the Opposition’s allegations concerning electoral irregularities and defend the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Sarma’s participation in Bihar reflects the BJP’s strategy of involving senior leaders from different states in its nationwide political outreach. The party is using public marches, rallies and meetings to take its message directly to voters.

Meanwhile, BJP Assam president Dilip Saikia participated in a separate march in Goalpara, Assam, on the same day. His participation highlighted the party’s efforts to expand the campaign across the Northeast.

BJP Targets Congress Over Democratic Practices

During the campaign, the BJP accused the Congress of failing to uphold democratic principles within its own organisation. The party questioned what it described as the Congress’s dependence on family-centric leadership.

The BJP also argued that democratic institutions and constitutional processes must remain protected. It maintained that political disagreements should take place through peaceful debate and democratic channels.

According to the party, protests are a legitimate part of democracy. However, they should not create disorder or undermine public institutions.

Through the campaign, the BJP seeks to present itself as a defender of democratic values and constitutional stability. It also aims to counter the Opposition’s criticism of the Election Commission and the electoral process.

Nationwide Campaign Gains Momentum

The BJP launched its broader ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ campaign in response to the INDIA bloc’s ‘Vote Chori’ campaign.

The Opposition has repeatedly raised concerns over alleged irregularities in electoral rolls, particularly in connection with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.

The INDIA bloc organised a major rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on November 1 under the slogan ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’. Opposition leaders demanded accountability from the Election Commission and called for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.

The BJP, however, has defended the electoral roll revision process. It argues that the exercise aims to maintain accurate voter lists and prevent ineligible individuals from voting.

The ruling party has planned a series of public programmes to communicate its position. These include padyatras, public meetings, press conferences and direct interactions with voters.

Senior BJP Leaders Take Part in Outreach

The campaign involves several senior BJP leaders and chief ministers. The party has assigned leaders to participate in marches across different states.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is among the prominent leaders involved in the campaign. Other senior leaders, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and several BJP chief ministers, are also participating in public outreach programmes.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s involvement highlights his role in the party’s wider political activities beyond the Northeast. As a senior BJP leader and North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor, he has frequently participated in political campaigns outside Assam.

The party’s strategy focuses on building a coordinated political message across states. It also seeks to strengthen communication between its national leadership and state-level organisations.

Assam BJP Extends Campaign to the Northeast

In Assam, BJP state president Dilip Saikia’s participation in the Goalpara march marked another step towards expanding the campaign across the region.

The party aims to mobilise its workers and supporters while highlighting its position on democratic institutions and electoral procedures.

The campaign also provides an opportunity for the Assam BJP unit to connect national political issues with local party activities.

By organising marches in different locations, the BJP hopes to increase public engagement and strengthen its political narrative.

Political Battle Over Electoral Reforms Continues

The competing campaigns have intensified the political debate over electoral transparency and the functioning of constitutional institutions.

While the Opposition continues to question the SIR exercise and demand greater accountability from the Election Commission, the BJP has defended the process and accused its rivals of creating unnecessary controversy.

Both sides are using public mobilisation to communicate their positions and influence public opinion.

The BJP’s latest marches indicate that the political confrontation is likely to continue through November. With senior leaders participating across states, the party is seeking to maintain momentum for its ‘Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy’ campaign.

The coming weeks will show how effectively the campaign strengthens the BJP’s political outreach and shapes the wider debate over electoral reforms and democratic accountability.
