Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma donated blood at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in Guwahati on September 19. The initiative marked the first death anniversary of popular Assamese singer Zubeen Garg.
The blood donation programme formed part of a statewide campaign organised by Assam BJP workers. The party held donation camps across its 39 organisational districts to remember the late singer through a public service activity.
Himanta Biswa Sarma Joins Blood Donation Drive
Sarma reached the BJP headquarters at Basistha in Guwahati on Saturday afternoon. He donated blood as part of the programme organised in memory of Zubeen Garg.
Assam Minister Keshab Mahanta and several BJP workers were also present at the party office during the event. BJP state president Dilip Saikia was also scheduled to take part in the donation programme.
The BJP had announced the statewide blood donation campaign ahead of the anniversary. The programme was organised under the Assam Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.
Party spokesperson Kamal Kumar Medhi said the programme would begin with floral tributes to Zubeen Garg. Blood donation camps would then be held at designated locations across the state.

The BJP organised the campaign across all 39 organisational districts of Assam. Party workers and office-bearers participated in the blood donation initiative.
