IIT Delhi and AcSIR join hands to expand opportunities for collaborative research and student exchange

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) and the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen academic collaboration, joint research and student exchange between the two institutions.

The agreement aims to bring together IIT Delhi’s academic and research expertise with the extensive network of research institutes associated with AcSIR, creating opportunities for students, researchers and faculty members to work across institutions.

The collaboration will facilitate joint supervision of postgraduate students, academic visits, research projects and access to research facilities at both institutions.

MoU to Strengthen Academic and Research Collaboration

The partnership establishes a framework for closer academic engagement between IIT Delhi and AcSIR.

Under the agreement, students and faculty members will be able to benefit from the complementary expertise, infrastructure and research capabilities of the two institutions.

The collaboration will also encourage researchers to work on multidisciplinary projects and explore solutions to important scientific and societal challenges.

The agreement is expected to create opportunities for sustained interaction among students, faculty members and research scholars.

Joint Supervision for PhD, M.Tech and MS(R) Students

A key feature of the MoU is the provision for joint supervision of PhD, M.Tech. and MS(R) students.

Under this arrangement, students enrolled through the collaborative framework will have at least one supervisor from IIT Delhi and another from an AcSIR-associated research institute.

The arrangement will allow students to benefit from academic guidance and research expertise available across both institutions.

It will also provide opportunities to work on research problems involving different scientific disciplines and specialised facilities.

Students to Access Coursework and Research Facilities

The agreement will enable students from IIT Delhi and AcSIR to undertake coursework and research activities at either institution.

Students will not require separate admission or payment of tuition fees at the host institution for these collaborative academic activities.

The MoU will also facilitate academic and research visits, allowing postgraduate students, research scholars and faculty members to spend time at the partner institution.

Such exchanges are expected to promote knowledge sharing and provide wider exposure to different research environments.

Faculty Members to Undertake Joint Research Projects

The collaboration also opens opportunities for faculty members from IIT Delhi and researchers from AcSIR-associated institutes to work together.

These institutes include research organisations under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), among others.

Faculty members will be able to identify areas of mutual interest, collaborate on research activities and pursue joint research projects.

The partnership is expected to encourage interdisciplinary research and strengthen connections between academic institutions and specialised research laboratories.

Directors Highlight Importance of Collaboration

IIT Delhi Director Professor Rangan Banerjee said the agreement would help move beyond conventional student and faculty exchange by creating a platform for sustained interaction among researchers.

He highlighted the potential for students and faculty members to share ideas, work on challenging research problems and contribute towards solutions to societal challenges.

AcSIR Director Professor Manoj K. Dhar said the MoU would provide wider access to IIT Delhi’s research infrastructure and expertise for students and researchers associated with AcSIR.

He also highlighted opportunities for students to work on research problems with industrial relevance and described the agreement as a step towards deeper academic and research linkages between AcSIR and IITs.

Expanding Research Opportunities in Higher Education

The agreement between IIT Delhi and AcSIR reflects a collaborative approach to higher education and scientific research.

By facilitating joint supervision, student mobility, academic visits and shared research activities, the partnership aims to expand opportunities for postgraduate students and researchers.

The collaboration is also expected to encourage institutions to share expertise and infrastructure, creating a broader academic environment for research and innovation in India.
