Khetri pedestrian accident has raised fresh concerns over road safety in Assam after a man was critically injured when a passenger Traveller hit him at Tetelia under Khetri police station on Sunday. The injured pedestrian, identified as Sanjay Ram, was reportedly crossing National Highway 27 when the collision occurred. According to preliminary information, Ram was attempting to cross the highway at Tetelia when the passenger vehicle struck him. The Traveller was travelling from Nagaon towards Guwahati at the time of the incident.
Ram suffered serious injuries in the crash and was taken to GMCH, where he is receiving treatment. His current medical condition has not been disclosed in further detail.
The exact circumstances that led to the collision remain unclear. Authorities are expected to establish how the accident occurred and whether factors such as vehicle speed, visibility, road conditions or pedestrian movement played a role.

Police said the Traveller was carrying 14 people, including the driver and handyman. Four people died at the scene, while three others later succumbed to their injuries. Seven additional passengers were undergoing treatment at GMCH, according to police reports.
Preliminary findings indicated that the Traveller lost control before crossing the divider and hitting the oncoming truck. Police were examining reports that the vehicle may have encountered a large pothole before the crash.
The August crash also triggered protests from local residents, who blocked the highway and raised concerns over road conditions. Reports said residents alleged that poor maintenance and potholes had contributed to repeated accidents along the route.

The incidents have contributed to growing concern over the safety of the Sonapur-Khetri corridor. While the causes of individual crashes can vary, repeated accidents underline the need for closer monitoring of road conditions and traffic movement.
