Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is set to launch a major employment initiative on September 29, with more than 25,000 job opportunities expected to be available to young jobseekers.
The Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Rozgar Mahakumbh will be inaugurated at SNDT Women’s University in Mumbai’s Churchgate area. The state government has organised the initiative to connect young people with companies and employers offering vacancies across multiple sectors.
The employment initiative is also being presented as part of the government’s broader outreach to young people. The programme has been organised by the Department of Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
Over 25,000 Jobs on Offer
According to the state government’s announcement, more than 25,000 employment opportunities will be available through the recruitment initiative.
More than 1,500 companies and establishments are expected to participate. The programme will bring jobseekers and employers together through recruitment fairs and placement drives.
The initiative will initially cover the Konkan and Nashik divisions, with participation from 12 districts.
These include Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg in the Konkan region. The Nashik division will cover Nashik, Ahilyanagar, Jalgaon, Dhule and Nandurbar.
More Than 418 Employment Fairs Planned
As part of the drive, more than 418 employment fairs will be organised across the two divisions.
The fairs are intended to provide candidates with direct access to employers. Young people will be able to learn about available positions, eligibility requirements and recruitment procedures.
The government has also planned a candidate-vacancy matching system. Under this process, candidates’ educational qualifications, skills and experience will be matched with vacancies registered by participating companies.
Focus on Skills and Employability
The employment drive will not focus only on connecting candidates with vacancies.
The department has also arranged pre-placement training for registered candidates. The training covers communication skills, personality development, interview preparation and other employability skills.
The initiative is intended to help candidates understand what employers are seeking and prepare for recruitment processes.
Companies, meanwhile, will have an opportunity to identify candidates according to their manpower requirements.
Special Employment Fair for Women
A separate employment fair for women will also be organised at SNDT Women’s University in Mumbai.
Around 600 to 700 women candidates are expected to participate in the special programme. Companies will set up stalls where candidates can learn about available positions, salary ranges, eligibility requirements and recruitment procedures.
The programme will also allow women to interact directly with company representatives and attend interviews.
Officials have said the initiative is aimed at connecting women’s skills with employment opportunities and supporting greater participation in the workforce.
More Than One Lakh Candidates Registered
The employment initiative has attracted significant interest from jobseekers.
According to Skill Development Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, more than one lakh candidates have registered for the programme. At the same time, participating employers have registered more than 25,000 employment opportunities and vacancies.
The large number of registrations indicates substantial interest among young people seeking employment opportunities through the state-led programme.
Government Links Drive With Youth Outreach
The recruitment initiative also comes amid a wider effort by the Maharashtra government to engage with young people on employment and recruitment issues.
The government has separately constituted a high-level task force to examine reforms in competitive recruitment examinations. The panel has been consulting students, examination aspirants, parents and teachers across Maharashtra.
The consultations are focused on issues such as examination security, transparency, reliability and the experience of candidates.
The Konkan consultation is scheduled for September 29, while the Nashik division consultation is planned for September 30.
Job Fairs Across Mumbai
Mumbai will also see multiple employment fairs as part of the September 29 programme.
The Mumbai suburban district administration has announced job fairs at 18 locations. These events form part of the wider Maharashtra employment initiative.
More than 500 job fairs and placement drives are expected to take place across the state under the broader programme.
Officials have encouraged young people, employers and entrepreneurs to participate in the fairs.
Connecting Employers With Skilled Candidates
A key objective of the programme is to reduce the gap between employers seeking workers and candidates looking for suitable jobs.
Companies can register their vacancies and specify the skills and qualifications they require. Candidates can then explore opportunities that match their educational and professional backgrounds.
The government has also encouraged industries and establishments to participate by sharing their manpower requirements.
This approach is intended to make recruitment more directly connected to the needs of employers.
BJP Outreach Context
The recruitment drive comes against the backdrop of political outreach by the ruling BJP-led government in Maharashtra.
However, the employment initiative is being implemented through the state’s Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Department and is formally focused on connecting jobseekers with employers.
The September 29 launch therefore combines a government employment programme with a broader public outreach effort focused on young people and employment opportunities.
Fadnavis to Launch Initiative on September 29
Fadnavis is scheduled to inaugurate the state-level programme at SNDT Women’s University in Churchgate on September 29.
Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Ajit Pawar, Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar, ministers, MPs and senior government officials are also expected to attend the launch.
With more than 25,000 vacancies and over 1,500 participating companies, the Rozgar Mahakumbh will provide a large-scale platform for employers and jobseekers to interact.
The government will also use the initiative to provide candidates with skills training and information about employment opportunities across different sectors.
As Maharashtra prepares for the September 29 drive, attention will remain on how many candidates secure employment through the fairs and how effectively the programme connects available jobs with the skills of participating youth.
