In preparation for the 2027 National Games, Meghalaya has launched statewide shooting trials to identify promising sports talent. This inclusive initiative aims to build a competitive home team while empowering local youth from all corners of the state.

More than 350 individuals have already registered in the first phase. Many of them are participating in a formal shooting event for the first time, having previously trained in school or local sports clubs.
MSOA Secretary Finely L Pariat emphasized, “We believe world-class athletes can emerge from every village. These trials are about discovery, opportunity, and belief.”

One participant, 17-year-old Tara Kharkongor from West Khasi Hills, said, “I never thought I’d train with professional equipment or even compete at this level. This trial gave me that chance.”

Local communities have played a vital role in the success of the trials so far. Teachers, sports mentors, and volunteers have helped with logistics, equipment handling, and moral support.
