Meghalaya Police has put elaborate security and traffic arrangements in place ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s two-day visit to Shillong on October 4 and 5. Around 1,500 police personnel will be deployed to manage security and traffic during the high-profile visit.
Shah is scheduled to attend a special ceremony to present the President’s Colours to Meghalaya Police. The recognition marks a significant milestone for the state police force.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said authorities have completed detailed preparations. He added that traffic management remains one of the biggest challenges.
Around 1,500 Police Personnel to Be Deployed
Meghalaya Police has mobilised personnel from different units, including tactical teams, to strengthen security arrangements.
The deployment will cover important routes and locations connected with the Home Minister’s programme.
Police have also prepared security arrangements along the routes Shah is expected to travel.
Syiem said the force has made comprehensive preparations to ensure the visit proceeds smoothly.
Traffic Advisories to Be Issued
Authorities will issue detailed traffic advisories through the Superintendent of Police (Traffic).
The advisories will identify routes that commuters should avoid and specify the timings of restrictions and diversions.
Police have prepared a traffic management plan to minimise inconvenience to residents and daily commuters.
Syiem said officials have paid particular attention to the movement of public transport and other vehicles.
He added that authorities would carefully manage traffic flow during the visit.
Presidential Colours Ceremony on October 5
The main purpose of Shah’s visit is the presentation of the President’s Colours to Meghalaya Police.
The honour recognises the service and contribution of a police force. Meghalaya Police is among the select police organisations in the Northeast to receive the distinction.
Syiem described the recognition as a matter of pride and achievement for the force.
He attributed the honour to the sacrifice, integrity and dedication of police personnel who have served the state.
Police Emphasise Professionalism and Public Service
The East Khasi Hills SP said Meghalaya Police would continue working to improve its service delivery.
He stressed the importance of professionalism, integrity and commitment to public safety.
The force aims to maintain high standards of policing while strengthening its relationship with the public.
The upcoming ceremony will recognise the contributions of police personnel and their service to Meghalaya.
Commuters Advised to Plan Travel
With security and traffic arrangements covering key parts of Shillong, residents may experience temporary restrictions during the Home Minister’s movement.
Police have urged commuters to follow official traffic advisories and plan their journeys accordingly.
Authorities aim to ensure smooth movement for the general public while maintaining security during the October 4–5 visit.
The arrangements reflect the scale of preparations for the Presidential Colours ceremony and the expected movement of the Union Home Minister.
