Mizoram Drug Seizures recorded a significant breakthrough in the state’s fight against narcotics, with police confiscating drugs worth Rs 77.15 crore and arresting 29 people during September 2026. The arrested individuals include six Myanmar nationals, according to officials. The figures, released by Mizoram Police on October 26, highlight the scale of drug trafficking operations confronting law enforcement agencies across the northeastern state.
Mizoram Drug Seizures Include Methamphetamine, Morphine and Heroin
According to a statement issued by Mizoram Police, the September operations resulted in the recovery of several types of narcotic substances. Methamphetamine accounted for the largest share of the seized drugs, both in quantity and estimated market value.
Police recovered approximately 78.746 kg of methamphetamine, valued at Rs 62.99 crore. Officers also seized 8.112 kg of morphine worth Rs 8.11 crore and 2.922 kg of heroin valued at Rs 5.84 crore.
In addition to these major recoveries, authorities confiscated 3.7 kg of opium, estimated to be worth Rs 18.5 lakh, and 4.22 kg of ganja valued at approximately Rs 2.11 lakh.
The combined value of the confiscated narcotics stood at Rs 77.15 crore. The recoveries demonstrate the continuing challenge of preventing illegal substances from entering and circulating within Mizoram.
Champhai and Saitual Record Major Drug Recoveries
Several districts reported significant recoveries during the September operations. Champhai district recorded one of the largest methamphetamine seizures, with police recovering 25.646 kg of the drug.
Saitual district also emerged as a significant location for enforcement action. Two separate cases resulted in the seizure of 18.194 kg and 12.746 kg of methamphetamine, respectively.
In another major operation, police recovered 8.946 kg of methamphetamine, 3.087 kg of morphine and 50 grams of heroin. These recoveries underline the variety of narcotics involved in the cases registered during the month.
Other seizures included 3.7 kg of opium in Champhai district, 1.618 kg of heroin in Kolasib and 4.22 kg of ganja in Lawngtlai.
The district-level figures indicate that anti-drug enforcement has involved multiple locations rather than a single concentrated operation. However, officials have not publicly detailed the alleged roles of each arrested individual in the reported cases.
29 Arrested, Including Six Myanmar Nationals
Mizoram Police arrested 29 people in connection with the drug-related cases registered during September. Among those arrested were six Myanmar nationals, while several other accused individuals were identified as residents of Manipur and Myanmar.
The arrests highlight the inter-state and cross-border dimensions of the narcotics challenge facing the region. Mizoram shares an international border with Myanmar, making efforts to monitor the movement of illegal substances an important law enforcement priority.
Police have continued to emphasise enforcement operations as part of their broader campaign against drug trafficking. However, the available statement did not provide a detailed breakdown of the suspects by district or disclose the individual circumstances surrounding each arrest.
The September figures form part of the state’s continuing efforts to identify suspected trafficking networks and restrict the supply of narcotics.
Police Seek Public Support to Fight Drug Trafficking
Following the recoveries, Mizoram Police urged residents to cooperate with government authorities and community organisations to strengthen the fight against illegal drugs.
The department appealed to people to share information about suspected drug trafficking and the movement of narcotic substances. It specifically called for cooperation with the government, village councils, the Young Mizo Association (YMA) and non-governmental organisations.
According to the police, cooperation between law enforcement agencies and local communities remains essential to tackling the drug menace. Information supplied by residents can help authorities identify suspicious activities and support investigations into suspected trafficking networks.
The appeal also highlights the importance of community participation alongside police action. Enforcement operations can remove illegal substances from circulation, while awareness, prevention and timely reporting can support wider efforts to address drug-related problems.
Mizoram Strengthens Its Wider Anti-Drug Campaign
The September seizures come amid broader efforts by the Mizoram government to intensify its campaign against narcotics. On September 28, 2026, Mizoram Police launched a three-year State Action Plan to Combat the Drug Menace for 2026–2029.
The plan adopts a coordinated approach covering supply reduction, demand reduction and harm reduction. During the launch, police leadership also highlighted enforcement achievements, including substantial drug recoveries and arrests made during 2026.
The initiative reflects an approach that combines law enforcement with prevention and community involvement. Its effectiveness will depend on sustained implementation, coordination among agencies and continued cooperation from residents.
With drugs worth Rs 77.15 crore seized in September alone, the latest figures underline the scale of the challenge. Mizoram Police have reiterated the need for intensified action and public participation as the state continues its efforts to curb trafficking, disrupt illegal supply networks and protect communities from the effects of narcotics.
