West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee recently undertook a significant visit to Khadikul village in the Purba Medinipur district. The purpose of her visit was to address the aftermath of a devastating blast that occurred at an illegal firecracker factory, resulting in the tragic loss of 12 lives. Making her way to the village, Banerjee, accompanied by state chief secretary H K Dwivedi, expressed her solidarity with the affected families.

Upon her arrival at Alipur in the district, a temporary helipad had been set up to facilitate her visit. From there, Banerjee proceeded to Khadikul in Egra, where the ill-fated firecracker factory was located. The Chief Minister’s presence brought a sense of reassurance to the grief-stricken community, as she met with the family members of the victims.

During her interaction with the affected families, Mamata Banerjee displayed empathy and offered her condolences. In an effort to alleviate their financial burden, she announced the distribution of compensation cheques. Each kin of the deceased would receive Rs 2.5 lakh, while those injured in the blast would receive Rs one lakh. This gesture aimed to provide some solace and support to the affected families during their difficult times.

The investigation into the blast has been underway, and so far, nine individuals have been arrested for their alleged involvement. Tragically, the main accused passed away three days after the incident while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Cuttack, Odisha. He had fled to Odisha with his family immediately after the explosion.

Following her visit to Khadikul, Chief Minister Banerjee was scheduled to travel to Salboni in the Paschim Medinipur district. There, she was set to join the Trinamool Congress (TMC) general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, for the party’s mass outreach program titled ‘Trinamoole naba jowar.’ This initiative aimed to engage with the local community, understand their concerns, and communicate the party’s vision for the region.

Mamata Banerjee’s visit to the blast site, her support for the victims’ families, and her active participation in the TMC’s mass outreach program demonstrate her commitment to the welfare of the people of West Bengal. Her empathetic approach and swift response to the tragic incident reflect her determination to bring justice and support to those affected by such calamities.
