Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on September 25 flagged off a bus carrying 40 selected students from the state for a Somnath Yatra to Gujarat. The journey is part of an educational and cultural exchange programme linked to the nationwide Somnath Swabhiman Yatra campaign.
The students were flagged off from the AP Civil Secretariat in Itanagar. Art and Culture Minister Dasanglu Pul and the Chief Secretary were also present at the event. The programme aims to provide young people from Arunachal Pradesh with an opportunity to explore India’s cultural and historical heritage.
40 students begin journey to Gujarat
The group comprises 40 students selected from universities and colleges across Arunachal Pradesh. During their visit to Gujarat, the students are expected to participate in educational and cultural activities connected with the Somnath Yatra.
The initiative seeks to give students exposure beyond the classroom. It also provides an opportunity for young people from the northeastern state to connect with cultural sites and traditions in other parts of the country.
The journey is being organised under the broader Somnath Swabhiman Yatra campaign, which has included similar programmes from several states during 2026.

The campaign has also included special journeys from states such as Odisha and Uttarakhand. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi flagged off a special train carrying more than 1,100 devotees to Somnath in June.
